Day 59

This is Jeremy McKinnon lead singer of "A Day to Remember". I love catching musicians mid jump. He looks so content up n the air.

I took this image of Bert McCracken (Lead singer of The Used) at the Eaton Hills Hotel. I used to be in love with this man in high school, it would be safe to say his looks have definitely gone down hill over the years lol

Day 57

This little glass elephant sits on our piano unnoticed and unloved. I thought it would make for an interesting picture when added with some background textures. We brought it all the way home with us from a trip to Venice so it's nice to see it getting some face time :p

Day 56

I spent today shooting the Soundwave festival in Brisbane. After some heavy rain and a horrible lack of parking, I finally found my way into the venue for what was an exhausting but exciting day. The image above is of Corey Taylor lead singer of Slipknot. Slipknot is by far one of the most exciting bands I have seen live. Their costume and attitude make for a terrifyingly exciting spectacle.

Today was another one of those days spent by the computer working on photos. I took this image in low lighting using the fairy lights to create some contrast.

I really like the simplicity of this shot thus I am going to keep the description simple too ;)

Day 53

I am extremely particular when it comes to converting my images to black and white. I like to ensure there is enough contrast and definition so that the images still remains enticing and doesn't become boring when colour is lost. I overlayed a subtle pattern to give this image more of a vintage feel. Because there is so much depth of field and shape, I think it works really well in black and white. The model is my lovely MUA Amelda. Check out her brilliant work here.....

I took this image of Kim Bailey (super stylist and uber talented designer) after our early morning business meeting. I love the juxtaposition of the background with the pattern of the dress.

Day 51

I've always enjoyed playing around with light in long exposures to create shape and contrast. Usually the camera is on a tripod and the light source is moving to create the desired effect. With the above image I moved my camera to create an effect whilst the light source (a streetlight) was still.  Just beware that whilst trying to draw images (with light) with your camera you must draw them upside down due to the obvious dynamics of photography. I'm not particularly good at drawing upside down love hearts however I think you can vaguely tell what it is :p

Day 50

This is a long exposure with a pattern overlay, as you have probably noticed by now I'm a big fan of pattern overlays ;) I took this on my nightly walk through the park, placed my camera on a table and did a log exposure into the darkness. I thought it looked a bit boring by itself so I added the pattern then changed my opacity to difference.

Day 49

After a lovely dinner followed by espresso martini's this image was taken just outside of Surfers Paradise. Initially meant to be a long exposure of the water, however I really liked the ghostly feel of Meghans transparent figure.

Day 47

I figured it wouldn't be a photography blog without some form of pensive, artistic, half naked self portrait.....so voila! In all seriousness I would actually really like to expand on the idea of adding textures and bright patterns to a monochromatic portrait. Playing around with the above photograph has given me a brilliant idea which I am excited to put into action asap. Yay!...it's days like these that make me really excited to do this blog :)

Day 46

For some reason I actually really like this image. It's something to do with the simplicity and use of space that resonates with me. I took this long exposure of my dog sitting on white tiles surrounded by white walls, the movement of his head during the exposure creates a ghostlike appearance.

Day 45

This image was taken at Cardimon Pod in Broadbeach, which in case anyone was wondering has amazing vegan chocolate mousse! The whole place is decked out with unusual objects and colourful trinkets, I love the colours in this image and the contrast between the background and foreground.

Day 44

Today was not a good day :( I spent the majority of it curled up in a ball on the couch feeling absolutely dreadful. In between tea breaks I trudged to my (yes, you guessed it!) cupboard and snapped this image. I overlayed this really cool tile pattern to give some sort of effect....

Day 43

Today I went into Brisbane to check out the travel expo. This image was taken at the lagoons at Southbank which to me is one of the most beautiful sites in Brisbane. About half an hour later it started pouring down with rain so it's lucky I got this snap when I did!

Day 42

This image was taken in an old abandoned train station which is also rumoured to be haunted. The cavernous like tunnel was swarming with bats, luckily for us the fire mostly scared them away. Adam the extremely talented fire spinner (pictured above) has attached steel wool which when lit and spun creates that magnificent spark. This was a long exposure which when working with light in dark spaces creates some stunning results.

Day 40

My macro lens strikes again! This Buddha sits on top of a tiny bell, the Buddha itself would only be about 2cm in height. I really love how after acquiring my macro lens I now have the ability to be able to capture the beauty of intricate objects. I would definitely recommend a macro lens to anyone.

Day 39

At a certain time just before dusk all these beautiful bats fly over our house. I've somehow always seemed to miss photographing them....and this time was no different. The tiny bat in the bottom right hand corner is real and the rest I put in myself lol. I have to admit this isn't one of my favourite images, but it was one of those days. Yay for fake birds....and fake clouds....did I mention how much I love fake clouds? :P

Day 38

Another slow day sitting in front of my computer working on photos. Although I did have a slight break to meet a friend for yum cha and a leisurely afternoon triple shot soy latte :p I used my macro lens on my D7000 once again to photograph this ring (pictured above) I thought it looked most effective in black and white so I did that using the saved presets in lightroom then adding some more clarity and contrast and also bringing out a bit more black.

Day 37

Today I photographed a corporate conference where the company team members were involved in 'amazing race' type challenges. The end of the race finished at the Sheraton Mirage (pictured above). It was such a lovely afternoon in a stunning location. It's days like these that I feel really lucky to be able to do the work that I do.

Day 36

The theme for today's shoot was based on the transition from the feminine, poised, elegant female to a crazed, wild animal like human. This is an image from the second 'crazed' shoot. We had such a fantastic team working on hair, makeup and styling and i'm ecstatic with the final product. Jessica Cagney did a fantastic job on makeup whilst Melissa Howlett did a brilliant job on hair. I was lucky enough to work with Kim Bailey again, stylist and creator of East of Grey clothing line. Stay tuned to facebook for more images from the shoot!

Day 35

This is a photo of Melissa whom I photographed for Lady Jane. Lady Jane is the sister company of PMA Models specialising in health and fitness. We arrived at the gym after closing and went through some of the correct techniques and exercises used in Gym workouts. I definitely wouldn't be looking so calm and graceful if I was in the same position :p

Day 34

I spent the majority of today with my eyes locked to the computer screen working on photos. During one of my million tea breaks I snuck outside and took this long exposure of my backyard. It always surprises me the beautiful colours and light that are uncovered when a long exposure is taken. I bought out the shadows/highlights using Photoshop and increased contrast and clarity using Lightroom.

I had the most amazing shoot today with a brilliant team of talented individuals. This is my beautiful model Emily who had her makeup done by the sensational Amelda Webster. The shoot was styled by the magnificent Kim Bailey designer of East Of Grey. Such a phenomenal day of creative genius!! :)

Day 32

I took this image at the Queensland gallery of modern art. The exhibition "Look now, see forever" is by renowned eccentric artist Yayoi Kusama. I have been dying to see this for weeks and definitely was not disapointed. The concept is to give guests (mostly aimed at children) stickers and tell them to place them around the originally white room. I captured this little delighted baby putting his sticker on the piano stool.
